Mantic MOB Dress Search 101

When our son was married, finding the "right dress" for their wedding was virtually painless, OK, perhaps painless isn't quite the right word, though it'll suffice for now. With our (now) daughter-in-law, we searched a few local shops then a couple bridal salons where MOB/MOG attire was abound, and ended up finding "the one" (Bride to Be approved) after only a couple of outings.

Sure there were "glitches" such as :"I'm sorry, this is the last dress we have in this style (2 sizes too big) and NO ONE ELSE carries this brand (I was a rookie back then!) though having it altered won't be problem for you AT ALL".. Yeah right.. I'd refer you to the poor seamstress who took on this "challenge" of altering a 3 piece ensemble made of 1/4" silk cording, adorned with minute clear crystal "jets," though last I heard, she's still recovering in one of our local "Loony Bins" !

All in all my dress turned out beautiful, I felt good in it and better yet, I've worn a couple of the pieces again..

And now the Bride and Groom Live Happily Ever After with our adorable Grandson.. :)

Now fast forward two years~

Yes, two years after Son's Wedding, our beautiful daughter became engaged in Feb of 2007 to the love of her life and began planning their Fall of 2008 wedding.

YEA!! Nothing but fun things and times ahead was my first thought, that is until the dreaded thought of finding my dress flashed through my mind!

Bear in mind this should be a very simple task to conquer since it's not as though we live in the middle of "Nowhere" USA.. We live within minutes of wonderful boutique's, a zillion and twelve dress shops, a multitude of shopping malls and I also have Internet access!

It was mentioned to me on quite a few occasions that as the Mother of the Bride I "should" (don't like the word SHOULD at all!) begin looking for "the" dress, sooner than later, which I did even before Bride 2 Be Daughter gave me her thoughts on style and colors. I just wanted to see what was out there so when the green flag dropped, I'd be off and running!

Well, off and running I've been... for months and months and MONTHS though so far I've come up empty handed much to my chagrin though much to the relief of Father of the Bride's back account's!

What's amazed me (and a good friend of mine who's been along for the ride and the "after" libations) is how every salesperson seems to know:

  • EXACTLY what I'm looking for without even listening to what I DO & DON'T want (hello.. what part of I'm not into heavily adorned rhinestone dresses made of chiffon didn't you understand?!?!)
  • EXACTLY what looks best one me (yeah something about those yellow chiffon-butterfly style-sleeves just wasn't what I was picturing!)
  • EXACTLY what color I SHOULD wear (excuse ME?? B2Be Daughter is wearing ivory..NOT ME!)
  • EXACTLY what Bride2B Daughter wants to "see" me in (Oh REALLLLLY?!?! Aside from a body bag, I'm thinkin' you dear saleswomen do not have a clue as to what B2Be Daughter wants to "see", though thank you for your time and NOOOOO, you may NOT have my phone number, address or even email..though thanks for askin')
Who would have thought that looking for a "simple" (rhinestone free), silk (hot flash friendly material), dress or jacket and skirt in a "Fall color" (though not brown) would be such a difficult task?

With a pattern in hand, my next stop is to pop in on "the seamstress" this week, that is if she or her husband don't recognize me first, pull the shades down then hang the "Gone Out of Business" sign first!
